Stuart Gleeson & Sea Leopard

Our pilot Stuart

The Sea Leopard

Describe yourself in 5 words:

Cautious, careful, calm, collected, and cool. (Exactly what you need in a pilot!)

Your most admired sports ‘hero’:

Ellen McArthur

Do you swim too?

Yes, I swim, snorkel and scuba dive

How did you get into all this channel crossing business?

It another use for the boat and a bit of a family tradition; they were involved in swims during the 60′s and 70′s.

Most entertaining experience whilst crossing the channel?

I get a kick out of seeing people putting in the effort and ultimately completing the challenge.

Have you even been in a bad storm?

Only once during a swim when we were caught in a gale, but plenty of times while out trawling

What is your one piece of advice you give swimmers who embark on this challenge?

Remember to stay close to the boat and make sure your feeds are quick

What is the most important thing for a swimmer to remember whilst swimming in the sea?

Stay focussed on your goal

Does anything scare you whilst on the ocean?

No, but the sea should be respected and never taken for granted

If you weren’t doing this job, what else would you be doing?

Something, somewhere on a boat

Would you ever swim the Channel?

I have dived in but I think I’ll leave the swimming to you!

And your final word?

Best wishes and good weather for your crossing
